Latest Beautification Project: Linda Vista Parkway
LVAA continues its long-standing efforts to enhance and beautify our neighborhood by supporting and implementing beautification projects.
Our most recent beautification effort involves planting "Yankee Point” Ceanothus in the parkway located on the east side of Linda Vista Avenue, south of Seco. The planted area covers the parkway along Linda Vista Avenue, across from the corner of Mira Vista where the telephone junction box is located, continuing for roughly 300 yards, ending at Seco Street. This was a joint collaboration between the City of Pasadena and LVAA, with both sharing the cost.
Tom Hunter, with the Department of Public Works, Parks and Natural Resources, oversaw the project for the City. Mr. Hunter’s work crews prepared the soil, installed an irrigation system, and planted 500 “Yankee Point” Ceanothus. The Department then planted two new oak trees in the parkway. Mr. Hunter also installed temporary barrier materials to protect the project from the recent Half-Marathon that ran along this portion of Linda Vista Avenue last month.
For LVAA, Ray Hyde, chairman of the Beautification Committee, saw the need and conceived of the idea for the project. Andy Gantner, Beautification Committee member, assisted Ray, and oversaw the project for LVAA.
