LVAA e-Alert (July 3, 2013)
July 4 Special Events Alerts
The Linda Vista~Annandale Association wants you to be aware of the following special, important July 4 alerts:
LVAA has been advised that the danger of wildfire in our hills, canyons, and neighborhood is EXTREMELY HIGH. We are also advised that public safety is receiving heightened attention this July 4.
PARKING RESTRICTIONS:
It is essential that emergency vehicles of all kinds, whether Fire or Police, have adequate access to all areas of our neighborhood. To this end, parking is very restricted this year, and ALL PARKING RESTRICTIONS WILL BE STRICTLY ENFORCED. If you, your family, or your guests park where parking is restricted, offending vehicles will be subject to being promptly towed. Also, it will no longer be possible for signs restricting parking to be removed. For example, Glen Oaks will be patrolled beginning at 1:00 p.m. on July 4 to enforce parking restrictions and enable emergency vehicle access. If you observe illegal parking in restricted areas, call the Rose Bowl (Police and Fire) Command Center at (626) 397-4144 to report the problem.
ILLEGAL FIREWORKS:
All fireworks, with the one exception of the professional show inside the Rose Bowl, are illegal in Pasadena -- whether "safe and sane" or worse. Due to the high fire danger, it is essential that illegal fireworks are controlled. Illegal fireworks also pose a real danger to users of all ages. Do not allow anyone in your household or your guests to possess or use illegal fireworks. If you hear or otherwise observe illegal use of fireworks in our neighborhood,CALL 911 AND REPORT THE ILLEGAL FIREWORKS. This matter is viewed so seriously this year by Pasadena Police and Fire that joint patrols are being utilized and will respond as promptly as possible to all calls reporting illegal fireworks.
PUBLIC SAFETY:
Pasadena Police Chief Sanchez has issued the following excerpted commands:
While the Pasadena Police and Fire Departments want everyone to enjoy themselves [on July 4], we must remember that public safety is our first priority. In addition to the awareness campaign regarding illegal fireworks and enforcement efforts, the Police Department will be implementing its plans for enhanced security measures and increased law enforcement presence at major events during the Independence Day festivities.
The Pasadena Police Department has a long history of successfully providing public safety operations for large-scale public events, from the annual Tournament of Roses Parade and the Rose Bowl Game, to numerous world-class entertainment performances. In order to achieve these positive outcomes, the Pasadena Police Department continuously evaluates threat assessments and risk management, making adaptations to identify and implement best practices and protocols.
As such, the public can expect increased security measures for major events within Pasadena, including, but not limited to, additional security personnel consisting of uniformed law enforcement and private security, high-profile deployment of urban patrol rifles, expanded bag checks at congestion points, and use of metal detectors. Additionally, there will be the presence of explosive detection canines and others security tactics.
Our public safety personnel and the public must remain vigilant in our effort to identify suspicious activity and take action. While celebrating our country's National Day of Independence, please remember safety first and if you See Something, Say Something.
LVAA advises: If you or others observe suspicious activity in our neighborhood, call the Rose Bowl (Police and Fire) Command Center at (626) 397-4144 to report the problem. You can also call the Police Non-Emergency number at (626) 744-4241.
LVAA wishes all of you a safe and Happy July 4 holiday!
