Seventy
five years ago, the first incorporated neighborhood association in
Pasadena was established – the Linda Vista Association. It grew to
become the present day Linda Vista-Annandale Association (LVAA) in
the 1970’s, all the while carrying on the goal of maintaining and
enhancing the quality of life in our community.
To maintain this quality of life, it is
necessary for the LVAA to express its concerns when potentially
impactful issues arise. Recently, the LVAA spoke before
the City Council regarding
the proposed "Rose Bowl Fair" scheduled for 11 days this summer
outside of the Rose Bowl. The fair represents a new era of numerous
small-scale events in and around the stadium that will negatively
impact our community. Some have tried to portray this as the
stadium’s future if Pasadena is unsuccessful in attracting an NFL
franchise.
Whether it is an expansion
of these smaller events or the renovation of the Rose Bowl for the
NFL, much of the discussion regarding the stadium’s future is based
on the assumption that the Rose Bowl Operating Company must generate
enough revenues to cover its operating and capital expenses on its
own. It is time to revisit that assumption and engage the city in a
discussion of what "long-term viability" of the Rose Bowl means.
