Neighborhood Crime Alert
April 14, 2009
Dear Neighbors:
There have been a variety of crimes and attempts in West Pasadena over the last few weeks. Not an excessive number, but disturbing and deserving of your attention.
Burglaries, auto thefts and break-ins, possible scams and lurking have all occurred. Some losses have resulted but, fortunately, some arrests made and some suspects photographed.
A few local areas now have Neighborhood Watch groups and e-mail "trees" to report crimes and suspicious activities. The police were quick to respond to phone reports.
The messages for you to MEMORIZE and PRACTICE are:
AT HOME:
• Lock doors and windows whether you are home or away, and always at night.
• ALWAYS report suspicious activity to the police. They want to hear from you!
• Don't open your door to strangers. Know who is there or don't answer.
• Don't buy from door-to-door vendors. They must be licensed and seldom are.
• Schools are not sending students out to sell magazines, etc. or take polls.
YOU CAR:
• Keep car doors locked while you are away and at home.
• Never leave keys in the car.
• Never leave attractive items visible in the car. Packages, computers, purses, iPods, etc. should always be kept out of site.
• Take valuables with you, or lock them up before leaving home or office. Thieves watch people putting things in the car trunk at the gym, market, office, or home and then strike.
• Lock cars (even inside your garage) and lock doors between your garage and house. Clever thieves can open any garage door.
The Pasadena Police Department recommends that you keep the following information handy:
Universal Emergency Number -- 911 -- to report a crime in progress!
Pasadena Police Department non-emergency number -- (626) 744-4241 -- to report suspicious activity.
Pasadena Police website -- to get more information and file a report online: http://www.cityofpasasdena.net/police/home.asp
Be safe, not sorry!
